Setting up your backup email or security questions means you will always have access to your Xero account. Xero sends you a confirmation email to the backup email address you provided.

When it arrives, copy the code. Return to Xero and paste in the code. See if the email went to your spam folder. Wait a couple of minutes, then refresh your email inbox. To fix, you can: Start the set-up process again Generate a new email by clicking Entered the wrong email address? Check your device settings to make sure notifications are turned on for your device and Xero Verify.

If you haven’t, you can do this in your device’s Settings , under Focus. Click Resend notification. Click your initials or profile image at the top of the screen, then select Account. Otherwise click Change to set up push notifications. Another user has logged in on the same computer using the same browser. Try rescanning the QR code. Click Enter a setup key instead. Start the set-up process again. Make sure you enter your Xero user email address on the contact form. Prove you’re the owner of the account.

This second layer of security is designed to stop anyone else accessing your Xero account, even if they know your password. You should set up MFA for your own user account using your Xero login details. You should never share passwords with others. We recommend you set up MFA to protect your Xero account.

When you log in to Xero, you enter your email address and password. Xero then prompts you to authenticate using either push notifications or a code generated by an authenticator app. Once you’ve set up MFA, you’ll get the option to skip authenticating your login for up to 30 days whenever you login.

Keep this screen open because you will need it later. Download the Authy Application. Once it is downloaded, open Authy and set it up by following the instructions on the screen. Once you have successfully set up Authy, a screen like this will appear. Click the plus button to add your Xero account. A screen like this will appear, prompting you to add a key. Go back to Xero and copy the key.
