I ended up calling Intuit’s tech support and letting the rep take control of my computer.

She downloaded QuickBooks 11 for me and loaded my company onto that, then from there, she was able to load it into the QuickBooks I still had issues in that it would not let me change my password, so I called back again and the rep ended up having me send my data to whatever department checks it to make sure it’s not corrupted.

They sent it back to me and I still had issues with the password thing, so I had to call back. I do think the password thing is somewhat of a nuisance since you need to change it every ninety days or so and I didn’t need a password for QuickBooks 7, but other than that I love it.

I also thought their service department was top notch. I’ve been using Quickbooks since This is only my 3rd new copy. Everything looks very very similar to QB My setup is relatively simple because I don’t do payroll, online banking, or anything that requires the internet unless I want software updates from Intuit. My QB hadn’t been updated in 6 years and still worked fine so I’m not worried about updates and maybe will just turn them off so Intuit will have no reason to access my data.

I use QB to track my personal finances which includes a couple of rental properties. In fact just today I was comparing annual property tax refunds and suddenly noticed that I hadn’t received one in The state revenue dept says they never received the return from my accountant!

Just one more reason why I’m doing my own taxes from now on. Anyway, without QB I wouldn’t have known. It paid for itself about 10x over. I did spend at least 8 hours researching and installing the new QB. Not something I want to do more than once every 7 years!

I read every AMZN review. The download and install were pretty fast and easy. The activation was frustrating because I don’t know why, errors, retrys, hair pulling, 4 letter words, but it finally succeeded.

So hopefully I won’t be back here until This is one of those products that kinda falls into the have to have category if you’re a business owner. With so many of these softwares going to the cloud subscription model, Quickbooks Desktop has become one of the more affordable software titles in this category.

Unfortunately, it pretty much looks like it was developed in the 90s and can be really clumsy – especially for those of us that don’t have a business accounting background. There’s definitely a learning curve – fortunately one of the pros of this software is that there is a huge community of users to help you out with questions. Although I do not have an accounting background, I do have a lot of experience with software.

Some of the things this program does and doesn’t do is infuriating. My least favorite aspect is the lack of customization on invoice fields you get two extras aside from their built in fields and the lack of ability to customize report columns in certain places. I’m the kind of person that likes my software very up to date, so I was kind of disappointed when my CPA told me this was the best thing to use for our purpose.

I have been using QuickBooks for years, and really like the product. When I upgraded to the version which I had to do in order to continue using some online features – such as banking – this is required every three years or so , I had an issue installing the product error extracting the setup files – error stated that there was not enough free space on the hard drive for installation – which was not correct.

I was not able to find much help online, but did run across one post with the exact same error. This poster used 7-Zip to extract the setup files from the downloaded program. I did the same and it worked like a charm. I had no other issues with the installation, activation, and data conversion process. I did have to verify my banking setup before I could use that feature easy process.

I have been using the product now without any problems. I would have given this product a 5 star rating, except for the above issue which I am sure more than a few people experienced – but Intuit did not really have any helpful solutions.

The best experience I had with this release was how easy it was to convert from the MAC version to the PC counterpart. Once copied to PC, it prepped and opened my file with no hassle.

I only lost a template form I had created. The transition was very easy. Just a note that if you do online banking, you have to get a code from your financial institution to “deactivate” the MAC version, and “activate” the PC version so downloading transactions and syncing is possible.

After reading the daunting reviews on how hard this is to download and get old backup data installed I wasn’t sure if I should buy it. I did and it was relatively easy to install and get my previous version backed up into the new program.

There were a couple of glitches like which user and password to use but the old one ended up working so don’t get rid of your old user and password. It will make it a much easier process. I also tried to upload my latest backup of my Pro data but it wouldn’t take it so I tried the next previous backup and it worked. It’s working great now! Have used Quickbooks for many years and have always loved it. Bought the version and this month pretty much forced me to upgrade or lose several functions in Quickbooks.

They gave me some long sad story why they do this and it would benefit me. I did use Quickbooks for payroll but decided after an additional fee for payroll and them not refunding me portion of my annual fee for payroll, I dropped them and went with Square payroll. Quickbooks did refund my a portion of my yearly payroll subscription, which I appreciate, especially since they told me they wouldn’t.

One person found this helpful. The boss man wanted to update our QuickBooks program for this region and this was the lowest cost I found. It is QuickBooks so anyone that has used a previous version knows there will be quirks here and there as well as some things that will not clear out correctly no matter what you do but that has been a problem with QB for many versions. When these pop up I just enter what is correct and make a note and then let the accountants handle it at tax time.
