I’m hoping that this means they’ll be able to do the topics covered in that book justice, since they haven’t crammed them in to this one. Overall I’m very happy with this book once I opened my eyes and actually read the instructions! This book is so far out of date that even the later Second Version has expired! In short the book and accompanying DVD are, to all intents and purposes, useless. This book – videobook is perfect for beginners. It is good choice for all who want to start learning about the edition with FCP X.

This is not my first book by Apple pro training series and I must say it again met my expectations. Used this book to do the Apple Final Cut pro x examination for self study.

I seem to recall that the software was a bit of a hassle to load but apart from that had an excellent experience with it. One person found this helpful. A very good editing software but it doesn’t quite meet my expectations because it doesn’t permit me to produce DVDs with a menu and a sub-menu nor permit me to decide where the chapter points should be; I want to be able to determine the length of each chapter rather than be forced to use the 10 minute chapter points.

Set out as you would expect, consise and easy to work with, Final cut X is so different to Studio. Started off well, but some of the lesson files do not work. Plus, the screen shots look different. Some people – me included – downloaded the Final Cut Pro X work files from the Peachpit website but get the following error when trying to use them: “The document “CurrentVersion.

The file isn’t in the correct format. Fortunately, it’s very simple to fix – in fact, there are instructions printed on the very page file from – they’re just not obvious. This forces your browser to use Peachpit’s downloader, and the whole file will be downloaded – and it will then work. I’ve been able to successfully use the files, and found the book very useful in learning how to use the application. As with other Apple Pro Training titles I’ve used, the training is well structured and nicely paced.

On the one hand, this book will be helpful maybe to people only just now coming over to Final Cut Pro X; however, I ordered this book in October and didn’t get it until April. In all fairness, the book was evidently delayed as Apple put out new versions of FCPX, so that all the updates could be addressed in print; however, in the last six months of pulling my hair out I have either figured most of this book’s information out on my own or used tutorial videos on various sites.

If you have been with FCPX as long as I have, you may not need this book, but newbies can learn directly from the guy who created this family of programs. As advertised. I purchased this for the video files on the DVD. Would’ve been nice if they specified that the included DVD can only be read by Mac computers. I had to go to a neighbor’s house to copy the videos to an external drive so I could use them on my PC with Adobe Premiere.

The manual does a great job in advancing skills. If I ever get to use the majority of the techniques discussed in those chapters, I would need another more detailed explanation.

This book advances the detail of editing functions, and is easy to understand. However it may be better to have had some experience with FCPX before purchasing this book. The illustrations were clear, unlike some in past publications that were difficult to see. For a very elderly user of FCP, I found this book very helpful. One person found this helpful. I couldn’t really rate the contents of the book, the lessons are based on the 2 discs that come with the book containing media, and lessons that correspond to all the contents of the book.

The Media is defective, it will not open with the software it is meant to teach, the opposite of the first book which worked fine. In trying to fix the problem I discovered this is a very common problem all over the forums for the last couple years, unfortunately with no resolve for me. See all reviews. David Pogue. Iain Anderson. Rick Young. Douglas Ryan. Helmut Kobler. I learned a lot there but I was still somewhat confused. Then I purchased this book and things became a lot clearer. Each author of a course has a different agenda of what they dwell on within the training. This book is well written and covers all the basic operations to a tee. I would suggest reading it to even non beginners.

The attached media did not work on So the attached media will work fine after downloading the update from the Peachpit Press website. This a great book for learning step by step how to use Final Cut Pro. Each chapter is well written and very explanatory There are areas in the chapters that ‘throw you a curve’ and ask you to do something ‘yourself’. It approaches your learning as if you were working for someone else and you are required to finish or change a task.

It helps you learn all the shortcuts as well. The videos that come with the book are unbelievably helpful for you to do a hands on learning. This book is vital in learning the program. It is easy enough to learn yet explains things very well.

I can’t tell you how much help ;this book has been. I have been editing with Pinnacle since version 8 and all the way through version My jump to Mac was seamless and this book has helped me. I highly recommend this book!! It was life saving in learning all the ins and outs of the Final Cut Program!

For example, there is a substantial amount of text devoted to audio. On the other hand, there is just cursory coverage of using the color balancing features – an article recently on the Macworld website had more information!

When it comes to sharing the final product only a few of the many options are discussed and even these are only discussed in a short fashion. The author recommends saving the master in ProRes format, even through this may be substantially larger in file size than the original footage. Why use this over H. Why not use one of the other ProRes formats?

I am sure there are reasons, and am equally sure the author knows them but it is not discussed in the appropriate section of the book. Although I had some experience in very basic editing, originally with Pinnacle and later with Adobe Premiere Elements, my foray into the now much less troubled Final Cut Pro X gave me some misgivings and a feeling that “help might be needed”.

In the event much of FCPX is intuitive if you have edited before but the finer points are much, much more elusive. This is particularly true for keyboard shortcuts. Now the book. For a beginner it is really very straightforward and the author has painstakingly made the instruction very easy to follow. Undoubtedly those with experience will find the early stages “skippable”. An accompanying DVD whose content sits on the desktop contains 4 films, all of which are used as examples and for the reader to work with.

It’s a great formula in my view and my progress through the book, whilst not spectacular, is steady and, yes, my editing is improving nicely thank you.
