The inbuilt library feature is large and requires some time to master in it. Honestly revit has nothing much to worry as a basic 3d modeling software,but it of course requires some time to master but at the end of the day its worthy. And also it demands a computer with high functioning capability. And also I have noticed that we can not input any pdf formets into it. And there is no reterograde compatibility since the older version had no cloud feature. As my last point revit predominantly focuses on structural elements only I wish if this improves further to help the designers as well.

We chose revit because of its advancements and the ability to give special attention to individual elements of a design model. And also it has good reviews from the users compared to other softwares that we encountered. We switched from Autocad because autocad mainly focuses on 2d designs.

It has everything you need for the realisation of a project and you just come to love it the more you learn and use it. If you get to use it enough you will start to feel that you don’t need any other software to work with, but you should always keep in mind that there are complementary programs that will make the use of the program even easier and you shouldn’t close yourself to the idea that it is bad to make use of them even if Revit can do it.

In general it is a program that is constantly updated and really adapts to the evolution of architecture and the complexity of it; and it plans to continue to do so for many years to come. Both its platform, as well as tools and the extensive work capacity that can be performed on it, as well as the comfort and ease of navigating a project from zero to the completion of final renders.

The ability to design curves and angles, and model other complicated features, really needs to be vastly improved.

Things like a skylight or a monumental stair and railing should not be so difficult to model and draw when they are so easy to do so in a dozen other programs. I will recommend to use Revit to architectural and engineering firms. This software is easy to use, specially if you come from the AutoCAD background. I like the fact that I am working tri-dimensionally and see esthetics of my projects almost immediately.

Also, Revit has a huge library with parametric components that I can access. Another cool thing is that Revit can be use to measure the environmental impact of my models if my clients are interested. In order to create nice quality renderings, I need to use other software s in combination with Revit because using Revit by itself will give me clunky images with a “computer” look, that as an project manager, I don’t think my clients will enjoy.

Because for architects, working tri-dimensional is much better. Give you a perception of what you are designing. I have been using Revit since last 3 years for modeling MEP services, producing shop drawings and quality take off. I use Revit to create a model which is used for clash coordination review in Navisworks. Revit saves lots of time in compare with other software as has many time saving and automation features.

It is the best drafting and 3D modeling software that I have used so far which have great features. The best part is that it is a multi user worksharing software by the help of which your whole team can work on a single project. You just need to save the file as central file.

You can make a template and save it and use it anytime when your start a protect so that you not need to set the project standards like text font, leaders, dimensions style, layout etc each time. Just you can open the template and start working. Last but not the list, revit allows you to create different parameter for the object that helps to add necessary information of the object. I will highly recommend to start practicing this software as it is going to be the future of AEC industry. The only cons I have got about Revit is the it uses a lot of memory to run smoothly. Time used: Less than 12 months. If you’re an aspiring firm who’s growing and taking on more than they have in the past, this is a great software to look into. Be warned, it will be a higher initial investment, since you will likely want to add-on premade template packages alongside taking time to learn the software.

However, once everyone has had time to get acquainted and workflow is setup, this is an amazing tool that can have your productivity soring. While being a smaller firm, we understand we could make do with software such as Sketchup since it’s relatively cheaper and can absolutely get the job done. However, in our office’s experience, the second you have more than 2 people in your office with more and more projects on your plate the more of a time and money sink it becomes having to keep track of coordinating all of your models.

Revit, especially with BIM cloud storage, is an amazing asset to have when it comes to collaboration and sheet creation. We also love to use Enscape with Revit to produce our marketing material. There is absolutely a learning curve that goes into taking on this program. Not only will you need time to get accustomed to speaking Revit’s language and recognize its quirks, but you’ll likely want to invest into premade templates and families since the defaults available on Revit aren’t quite at a presentation standard.

Also, there’s an example of the the language thing I mentioned; families can be anything from doors, fixtures, casework, etc. Beyond the initial setup, there’s still aspects of the UI that aren’t exactly intuitive, but there have been improvements made over the years but it’s still far from perfect.

Considering the compatibility with other Autodesk applications and helpful features such as 2D and 3D drawing, BIM modeling, presentation tools this is a great application to use.

But it comes with a larger price tag. Can be used for many purposes and currently, this is the industry standard for designing. Designing complex structures will be harder but considering advantages and disadvantages this is a good application to use.

And especially with modeling and presentation tools Revit is the whole package. And with enhanced support from other Autodesk applications, Revit seems like the industry-standard design software.

The main disadvantage is the higher price value for Revit. So middle and startup companies have to think twice before purchasing Revit. Also somewhat harder to create complex models.
